Goodbye Wattie

This Friday night saw me at our church's monthly 'Reach Out' group learning some sign language.
I learned that if you want to communicate that someone is 'French' you sign a big moustache, and 'Scottish' you mime a bagpipe under your arm!

I also learned that space is very important in sign language, as where you point to and when have a big impact on what you are conveying. For example if you are telling a story about a party you were at and the different people you conversed with, you will point to different places around you and have to remember where you pointed for which person if you are to talk about them again in the conversation.

To conclude our evening's learning we sang some songs, but in sign language, and here I learned that to say 'God' you point to the top right hand corner. So there you go.

On Saturday our local butcher Wattie Miller (I'd always thought that his name was Mr J A Water as that is what the sign above his shop says...) served meat for the last time. Cedric and I are sorry to see him retire but happy for him and for Darren (in pic) who takes over the business from him. Darren's fiance Shirley had baby Lilian earlier this year and they're a lovley family.
This weekend is also Rugby weekend it seems, and as I type Cedric'll be on the edge of his seat at Dave's watching the France match. Matthew's asleep oblivious to the importance of competative sports but I'm sure his dad will set him right on that one.
